normally it is the program using the dataset that might have the need for CONTIG
and the doc usually tells
IIRC contig was/is used when trying to squeeze the last drop of I/O dasd performance
using highly optimized ccw chains
I am sure that Robert can tell more about it

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort![icon_cool.gif]()
